Our team: María Montero, Marta Vargas, Daniel Medina, and Marta Franco came together with the shared goal of understanding how young people interact with technology and how it impacts their emotional well-being.
We began by identifying a clear trend: new technologies have become the main source of both entertainment and disconnection for younger generations. Smartphones, tablets, and laptops are seamlessly integrated into their daily routines, replacing traditional activities that once involved paper or manual engagement. This shift led us to reflect on the growing need to reconnect with emotions and support young people in managing their time more intentionally.
To dive deeper, we conducted six semi-structured interviews with individuals from diverse backgrounds and roles. These conversations revealed important insights into their relationships with mobile phones, their use of social media, and how they spend their leisure time. A consistent theme emerged: although users felt closely connected to their devices and social platforms, they often lacked awareness of how deeply those habits were rooted and how they were affecting their well-being.
Some of the most telling insights included statements like:
“People feel worse and worse about their phones, even if they don’t realize it.”
“I’m disconnected in real life but very connected online. It brings me closer to my friends.”
“I can’t remember the last time I turned my phone off.”
“Many times I open a social media app and don’t even know why.”
“I check my phone every five minutes.”
These quotes helped us clearly understand the disconnect between digital habits and emotional health — and served as the foundation for our concept moving forward.
Our value proposition centers on three key pillars: gamification, challenges, and awareness. Through gamification, we aim to create engaging, fun, and slightly challenging experiences that keep users motivated and curious. By introducing challenges, we promote a sense of purpose and progress while encouraging social interaction and shared goals. Lastly, we emphasize awareness, helping users reconnect with themselves, enjoy their digital habits more mindfully, and ultimately learn to disconnect when needed.
Looking ahead, our next steps are clear: we want to encourage users to dream, to envision new possibilities for their digital wellbeing, to explore statistics that bring clarity to their habits, and to get inspired through thoughtful insights and meaningful content that supports real change.
